London Unified Communications UC Expo 2019 Highlights

The 9th UCExpo was held in London from Wednesday, May 15th through 16th. Developed from an earlier trade show, VoIP for Business, UCExpo relocated in 2019 from the Kensington Olympia to the London ExCel. It is a great venue once you get there. The event's brand catch line is 'Smarter Collaboration' which, for the AV sales team here at Finepoint Broadcast, sums up what AV is all about.

Yes, there were a lot of exhibitors with a mass of new kit. No, I won't catalog them all because you would be asleep within 60 seconds. But here are some MacKenzie-selected highlights.

Avocor debuted its new Windows collaboration displays, featuring what it claims is the world’s most advanced touchscreen technologies to enhance collaboration and accelerate teamwork. The new collaboration displays are fully compatible with Windows 10 and deliver the power and productivity of Microsoft 365 at room scale. Avocor's Windows collaboration displays feature integrated cameras, stereo speakers, far-field microphones and a pen. They easily connect to any Windows 10 PC via a single USB-C. They include built-in sensors which connect to Azure IoT Smart Spaces so facility managers can use the environmental data they collect to make real-time decisions.

Cisco promoted its WebEx on-demand collaboration, online meeting, web conferencing and videoconferencing applications. These include Meeting Center, Training Center, Event Center, Support Center, Sales Center, MeetMeNow, PCNow, WebEx AIM Pro Business Edition, WebEx WebOffice, and WebEx Connect. With the WebEx mobile app, conference hosting is easy and joining is easier. You simply click on your link to join. You can even learn about the people you’re meeting for the first time, with instant access to participants’ background and company.

Huddly demonstrated its IQ camera which it says delivers a video meeting experience 'like no other'.  Features include a 150° wide-angle lens, an embedded microphone array and AI capabilities. The Huddly IQ room kit includes a 2 metre USB C to A cable for installation in huddle spaces and small and medium-sized rooms. Huddly IQ makes the meeting experience feel natural by smoothly zooming in on the participants and framing them perfectly in the image. The Huddly App makes it easy to keep the camera up-to-date with the latest features.

NEC showed its InfinityBoard which combines a UHD touch display, camera, speakers and collaboration software in one device. Ideal where multiple presenters are addressing large groups with connected remote participants. Open, modular and software agnostic, it allows organisations to use any VC platform of their choice and integrate with their choice of software and operating system

LogMeIn's GoToRoom is a simple, all-in-one solution for huddle rooms and medium-sized conference rooms. It includes all the hardware needed to host or attend high quality video meetings through the company's GoToMeeting, without need for time-consuming setup or constant IT intervention. With multiple package options, including hardware from LogMeIn’s partner Poly, businesses are able to select the system that meets their needs and budget.

Many video users today are frustrated by the DIY experiences that are result in poor audio and mediocre video that don’t allow people to see and hear everyone clearly. Often with the aim to do things on the cheap, many meeting rooms over the past few years have been poorly planned and use consumer grade products to create a less than optimal solution. Poly Studio USB Video Bar (the 'Polycom Studio') is designed to combine business-class performance with simplicity for small rooms and huddle spaces. Its plug-and-play functionality works with nearly any video platform via a simple USB connection.

Mersive's new Solstice Pod connects to the meeting-room flat panel or projector and wireless/Ethernet networks to facilitate collaborative content sharing, improved decision making, and better meeting results. Solstice includes support for dual displays, 4K streaming, a wired content source and PoE+.

Yamaha exhibited examples from its very wide range of audio production equipment which includes mixers, interfaces, network switches, amplifiers, loudspeakers, recorders and PC/iPad/iPhone/Android software.

Last but not least, Zoom demonstrated its Zoom Rooms software-based conference room system which is used around the world in board rooms, conference rooms, huddle spaces and training rooms, as well as executive offices and classrooms.
